Clip-in extensions: how to put them in so nobody can tell (step by step)

Why do your extensions look fake?

The answer is almost always the same: the technique, not the product. Clip-in extensions are one of the easiest and fastest ways to transform your hair, but if you do not know exactly where and how to place them, it shows. And not in the way we want.

The good news: with the right steps, nobody will know you are wearing extensions. Not even your hairdresser.

What you need before you start

• Your My Doll Hair extension set (5 wefts included)
• A bristle brush or a tail comb
• A clip or pin to section your hair
• A flat iron or blow dryer if you want to adjust the texture
• A full-length mirror or a hand mirror so you can see the back

Step by step: how to put in clip-in extensions so nobody can tell

Step 1 — Divide your hair into horizontal sections

Start at the bottom of your nape. Separate a horizontal strip of hair and clip the rest up out of the way. This will be your first base layer. The section should be as wide as your largest weft.

Step 2 — Open the clips and place the weft at the root

Take the largest weft in the set (the one with three clips). Open the clips by pressing upward and place the weft right at the root of the section you separated. The weft should sit against your scalp, not floating an inch away.

Step 3 — Close the clips firmly

Press each clip down until you hear or feel the click. If a clip does not close properly, the extension will shift during the day. Give it a gentle tug: if it moves, open it again and reposition.

Step 4 — Drop the next section of hair and cover the weft

Release a little of the hair you clipped up and let it cover the extension you just placed. This is what creates the invisible effect. The key is that your natural hair always hides the line of clips.

Step 5 — Repeat with the medium and side wefts

Keep working up your head, placing the two-clip wefts at the sides and in the center. For the top, use the single-clip side wefts near your temples, but never so high that they end up exposed.

Step 6 — Brush and blend

Brush from the root down so your natural hair and the extensions blend together. If your natural hair is straight and the extensions have a wave, run a flat iron over them lightly so everything shares the same texture.

Common mistakes that make extensions look fake

• Placing them too high, near the crown: they show when you move.
• Not covering the weft with your own hair: the line of clips stays visible.
• Using a single weft instead of several: the volume looks lopsided in one spot.
• Not brushing afterward: the edge of the extension reads as separate from your natural hair.
